The Model Railway Society was started in July 1987
by Bhau Joshi and a few fellow railway enthusiasts,
with a view to develop interest in prototype as well
as model railways.
The members meet on the third Sunday of every month.
Until March 2001 the meetings used to be held at the
members homes by rotation, but from April 2001 the
venue has been fixed at the Joshi's Museum of Miniature
Railways, timing 9.30 am.
The annual meeting of the Society is held on the
Sunday nearest to 16th July.
The society holds a meeting at the Pune Railway Station
every 16th April at 7 am ( the day railways started
in India).
The society arranges lectures by various experts
on any and all aspects of Railways, including administration,
civil work, signaling, rolling stock, locomotives,
track technology, communication in railways etc.
Outings to various places of interest from the railway
point of view are also arranged periodically. Recently
the members visited some sites of the Konkan Railway,
one of the most ambitious projects in India in recent
times.
The Society also publishes a periodical Wheel on
Steel.
